Though craft beer has been booming on mainland Australia, it’s been moving a bit more slowly on Tasmania. However, the industry is gaining speed and there are several great options for craft beer lovers to explore on this wild island. Continue reading

Return to Kathmandu
“But why are you going back to Nepal? Weren’t you just there?” It was perhaps the most common question that I was asked when I told people that I was returning to Nepal, just 18 months after I had visited. The reason for returning was simple, but it seemed hard to understand. “I loved it … Continue reading
A Stop On the ‘My Writing Process’ Blog Tour
A few weeks ago my friend Natalie Dietz Raines invited me to be a part of this “blog tour.” This was the first time I’d heard of this kind of blog tour and I was really inspired by the topic and the idea of “my writing process.” To be honest, until I got this invitation, it’s the writing that’s occupying my thoughts, not really the process. Plus, it has the word “tour” in it. Sign me up! Continue reading
A Beer Lover’s Guide to Bonnaroo
Bonnaroo.
For me, the name conjured up the image of giant fields filled with whirling dervishes of body-painted hippies, stages full of bands I’d never heard of and glow sticks. Lots of glow sticks. When my cousin suggested going (she knew that I have a hard time saying no to any adventure), I thought it would be a good chance to challenge my preconceived notions.
After experiencing a weekend on The Farm, as the site in Manchester, TN is known, I decided that my pre-event imagination wasn’t far off. There were a lot of hippies. And body paint. And, for all of Security’s efforts, glow sticks. Lots of glow sticks. Continue reading

I’m applying for a job in Vail, Colorado, one that will require me to write, post photos, interact with guests, lead cruiser bike rides, hike and be all sorts of ambassador-ish and social. But, there’s a catch: I need your help. Continue reading
Irish I Was in Ireland
There are very few countries that inspire ancestral pride like Ireland on March 17 (and, if it that does not fall on a weekend, for the days leading up to March 17). Originally a religious holiday to honor St. Patrick, who introduced Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century, St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into a celebration for all things Irish with images of shamrocks, leprechauns and the “wearing of the green” to celebrate the Emerald Isle. You’ll hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t claim at least a bit of Irish on this day and, in the spirit of this friendly country, no one will actually double check your claim. Continue reading
Get Over the Polar Vortex and Get Beach Ready
A friend who lives in Connecticut called me last week. Apparently the polar vortex and all of the crazy weather that has been affecting the country got to be a bit too much for her.
“I need a beach–somewhere warm, not too far from an airport. I need to get out of here,” she said.
She’s not the only one who has been feeling this way. From tweets to Facebook posts to conversations that I’ve had with friends living from Colorado to Atlanta to New Hampshire, everyone’s a bit over the cold and ready for the beach. Continue reading
